Check the cam BEFORE you leave. Foam, brown/green murk, or waves washing the entry rocks = No-go. At night/in fog the cam is useless — treat it as «unknown», NOT «green».
Rules change and the on-water conditions are not consolidated in one act. Before heading out, get the dedicated «Ψαροντούφεκο» licence and confirm the current limits/sizes with the Department of Fisheries (DFMR) — licence.dfmr.moa.gov.cy.
Spearfishing in Larnaca is a shallow-water game, not a Zenobia-wreck shortcut. The practical shore options sit around Softades/Kiti, Meneou and Oroklini, with 3-12 m reef, sand and common bream, mullet or octopus. The Finikoudes front is too urban, the offshore Larnaca MPA is no-take, and Cape Pyla/Dhekelia needs separate caution because the UK base rules may differ. Go early, check the sea forecast, carry a buoy, and stay clear of ports and swimmers.
These are shore-entry, shallow reef options. They only make sense when the east and southeast swell has dropped and the exit is obvious before you enter.

Cyprus requires a dedicated DFMR Spear Gun licence, priced at €35 and valid to 31 December of the issue year. Spearfishing is apnea-only: scuba, tanks and compressed air are not allowed with a speargun, and night spearfishing is banned. Treat no-take and protected zones fail-close. The Larnaca MPA offshore is not a place to enter with a gun; if the boundary is unclear, stay out. Around Dhekelia, check the UK base jurisdiction separately. Common practice also expects a marker buoy, distance from swimmers and ports, and confirmation of current catch limits with DFMR.
