Open in the appSOLO is the biggest risk: underwater you can black out from lack of oxygen silently and fatally, with no one around. Solo is never truly «safe». Below are the best weather windows; carry a buoy, tell someone your plan and exit time, and any doubt — don't go.
Cameras, map and reference — to hand as you come up.
Check the cam BEFORE you leave. Foam, brown/green murk, or waves washing the entry rocks = No-go. At night/in fog the cam is useless — treat it as «unknown», NOT «green».
Torquay / Anglesea has rock entry points such as Point Danger (Torquay), Jan Juc — Bird Rock and Bells Beach reef. The Surf Coast's home town: the reef platform off Point Danger is an easy 2–6 m entry for abalone, crayfish and snapper and stays sheltered on a northerly, while Bird Rock at Jan Juc and the Bells reef are exposed ledges for small swell only. Below you'll find each spot (access, shelter and hazards) and today's forecast.

Summer 14–19 °C — 5–7 mm suit; winter 11–13 °C — 7 mm. Cold Bass Strait.

Torquay / Anglesea is in VIC. Yes — Victoria requires a Recreational Fishing Licence, and the spear is banned in and beside every inland water. Spearfishing on scuba is banned everywhere, rock lobster may never be speared, and marine-park sanctuary/green zones are no-take. See the guide for the state-by-state detail.
