Los modelos definen la ventana. Pero entrar o no se ve solo a pie de agua: cuenta las series, observa la rompiente en la entrada. Ante la duda, no entras.

Early morning: later in the day gusty wind starts dropping off the hills, and by noon the bay fills with holidaymakers. The south coast works almost year-round, September to November being the best months. All of May is closed in Greece, and night is banned — on a shore this remote that is just as well.

Sea level plays no part here, but the cape does: off the point of Melissa the water is colder and clearly clearer, and a steady flow runs along it that pushes you off the corner into open sea. Once you go round the corner, check yourself against the buoy and the shore every couple of dives.
abrigo
Cape Melissa closes the bay from the north so well that locals simply call it the windless one. The meltemi does not come here, and the rocks of the south-west corner also kill the side chop. That corner is open only to south and south-west: from there the wave runs in off the Libyan Sea unhindered.
condiciones
Any north day is yours: while the island's north coast is a mess, here you get a flat mirror and visibility down the whole wall. With south or south-west wind, and even more with leftover southerly wave, do not come: the steep entry in the south-west corner turns into a trap on the way out.
peligro
Thirty-five metres of wall on a breath-hold in a deserted place: the nearest help is far, the road runs through Sachtouria, and phone signal is patchy. Do not come alone. The rock folds on shore are proposed as a natural monument, so protection could be tightened — ask the port authority first.
acceso
Tarmac from Sachtouria or Akoumia brings you to the settlement; leave the car above and walk the path down into the south-west corner. The entry is steep, over rock, and climbing back with fish is hard — budget your strength. The wall starts right under the shore; the alternative is to come in by boat.

Work at first light: the breeze gets up by midday, and in July and August the meltemi builds and holds for days. The best window is September to November — warm water, fewer tourists. All of May is closed for spearfishing in Greece, and night is banned, sunset to sunrise.

Tides barely work here — the level moves ten or twenty centimetres. You count something else: cold freshwater springs come out of the rock around Bali and lay a chilly, blurry layer near the bottom, and after a few days of meltemi a clear along-shore flow runs past the headlands.
abrigo
The coast faces north, so the only shelter here is the shape of the land: a chain of headlands splits the shoreline into coves, and the east-facing ones sit in the lee while the wave runs from N and NW. Coves that open straight north take the meltemi head-on and give you nothing.

Come with S or SE wind: it blows off the mountains and flattens the water in the coves. A light easterly is still workable. With N or NW, especially around 335 degrees, the place is off — at 1–15 m the wave lifts sand and visibility drops to a couple of metres.
peligro
The main threat is boats: Bali has a working fishing harbour and excursion craft, so a buoy is mandatory and you stay near it. Keep 200 m off swimmers at the organised coves and off harbour works. Amphorae and anchors lie on the bottom — the area could be declared archaeological, so lift nothing.
acceso
Every cove has tarmac and parking right by the water; you get in over pebble and rock, so wear boots. From the shore it is ten to fifteen minutes of swimming to the rocky headlands. By boat it is faster: five to twenty minutes from the harbour out to the outer capes and reefs.

Work at first light, while the sea stands: through the day gusty wind often drops off the mountains, and by evening the cove fills with swimmers. The season here is long, almost year-round, except May — all of May is closed in Greece. Groupers are here, but the law allows only one per day.

Forget the tide — level decides nothing here. What decides is the along-shore current, and on this coast it is serious: in July 2026 the buoy and speargun of a hunter lost off Frangokastello were found several miles east, already off Plakias. Check your drift against the buoy every few dives.
abrigo
This is already the Libyan Sea: the whole mass of Crete stands between you and the meltemi, so a north wind is exactly when people work here while the north coast is shut. Ammoudi itself is a small cove between rocky headlands; they cut the easterly chop, but wave from west and south comes in freely.
condiciones
It is diveable when north and north-east blow hard — those are exactly the days the local dive centres move over here. Do not come with west or south wind or a long southerly swell: on a 25–40 m reef the water starts moving and the exit over the rocks gets ugly.
peligro
Depth is the main thing: 25–40 m on a breath-hold forgives little, and a blackout on the way up kills quietly. Never work alone, keep a partner on the surface. Ammoudi is an organised beach with umbrellas and a dive centre: 200 m off the swimmers, and watch the boats running out to the sites.
acceso
Tarmac from the village of Lefkogia brings you right to the cove, and there is enough parking. You get in at the water over a greenish rock — it is soapy slick, put your foot down flat. The reef and wall are a fair swim out, so many take a boat from Ammoudi or Damnoni and drop in above them.

Early hours, while the wall is in shade and the fish stand higher. The season runs March to November; in winter the road through the resort to the inlet can be shut. All of May is banned across Greece; night is banned too, and getting in over these rocks in the dark would be suicide anyway.

Level means nothing here, but the wall lives its own life: cold clear water rises along the drop, and at the neighbouring cape the current can be strong enough that dive centres simply close the site. Before the first dive look at your buoy — wherever it is pulled, you will be pulled too.
abrigo
A narrow rock inlet between sheer walls — locals call it the pirate fjord. The north wind goes over the top, above the cliff, and barely touches the water below, so in a meltemi it is glass here. But south and south-west set straight into the throat of the inlet, and then everything moves.
condiciones
The ideal day is a hard north: it howls above and it is dead calm below, with visibility down the whole wall. With south or south-west the place is off: the narrow inlet fills with surge, and climbing out over wet rock with a gun and fish is a reliable way to cut yourself.
peligro
There is a hundred metres straight under you: if you black out on the way up, there is no bottom to land on and nobody to hold you. Work with a partner and do not chase depth right against the wall — the ascent is easy to misjudge. There are overhangs you should not enter, and dive boats work this shore.
acceso
The road runs through the resort and a private track leads down to the inlet — find out in advance whether you will be let in. The entry is steep, over rock and steps at the water, and climbing back with fish is hard work. No swim needed: the wall starts under the entry, first ledge at fourteen metres.

Work from first light until about eleven: after that the beach fills, the sunbeds and pedalos come out, and you have to move further off the ends of the bay. The season is long and the water is cold even in summer — bring a thicker suit. All of May is closed, and night is out too.

Level is beside the point. What matters is that cold fresh water comes down from the Finikas valley into the bay, so there is often a noticeably colder layer near shore, and after rain a murky one too. Add a slow drift along the shore to the east: you get in at the rocks and half an hour later you are over sand.
abrigo
The place sits in the western part of Plakias bay, behind a headland, so it cuts the westerly chop that the main Plakias beach gets in full. Locals put it plainly: when it blows at Plakias, you can still work at Souda. The meltemi never reaches this coast at all.
condiciones
You come here exactly on the days the main beach is already blown out: the west wind is noticeably weaker in this corner. A working range of 3–20 m forgives a little chop. What kills it is a real southerly wave out of the open sea — then the rocks at the ends of the bay turn into a washing machine.
peligro
The main risk here is not depth but people: this is an organised beach bay with sunbeds and rentals, so the middle of it is off limits — 200 m from swimmers, work only at the rocky ends. Watch for pedalos and boats. The rocks at the ends are sharp and overgrown and will cut your hands.
acceso
Tarmac three kilometres west of Plakias, parking right by the sand. Walk to either rocky end of the bay and get in over rock and coarse pebble. The reef is two or three minutes of swimming away, and from there the depth grows gently to twenty metres, so you never have to paddle far.

Get there early, before the breeze: from around 11 to 13 the wind usually freshens and a shallow cove is the first thing to go off. Best months are September and October. All of May is closed across Greece, and night is out entirely — an underwater torch is banned too.

Level does not matter here — a swing of a few tens of centimetres changes nothing for hunting. Watch other things: a weak flow runs along the walls between the rocks, and inside the hollows the water breathes back and forth with the wave. After rain the slope washes silt down for a day or two.
abrigo
There is almost no shelter: the little cove opens north and the northerly wave walks straight in. The tall rocks on either side only cut the side wind from east and west — under whichever wall the wind hugs the water sits a little calmer, and that is all you get.

Come on a south wind — it blows off the land, the surface turns to glass and at 8–10 m you see everything. A light east or west is workable. With north or north-west do not even bother: at that depth the wave stirs the bottom, and the exit over the rocks turns dangerous.
peligro
The danger here is simple and close: eight metres of water and rock right at the shore, so if the wave gets up it will slam you on the way out. Do not linger in the hollows, the surge moves you around. Urchins everywhere — boots and gloves. The cove is wild: no lifeguard, no people, solo is a bad idea.
acceso
Turn off the old road east of Skaleta, leave the car above and walk a short path down to the strip of pebble. You enter straight off the pebble and are on rock at once. No long swim: the rocks and walls start a few dozen metres out from the shore.

•Registro del pescador aficionado (ΟΣΠΑ / Μητρώο Ερασιτεχνών Αλιέων): el Reg. (UE) 2023/2842 obliga a los Estados a registrar la pesca recreativa, y el registro griego se describe como en preparación. No hemos encontrado ni acto en vigor ni registro operativo en 08.2026 — no confirmado. Consulta gov.gr antes de ir.

✓Límite: 5 kg/día (o un trofeo más pesado que el límite). Mero (Epinephelus) — máx. 1/día, no está prohibido (ΠΔ 373/85, art. 2§2).

✓Carga el fusil solo dentro del agua — fuera del agua no puede estar cargado (ΠΔ 373/85, art. 3§2β). La luz subacuática en la caza está prohibida (art. 3§2ζ).
✓Erizos — 20/día por persona y 30/día por embarcación (ΠΔ 373/85, art. 2§2). Las redes en cualquier fase de la caza están prohibidas, y no se puede sacar la captura de las artes o redes de otros (art. 3§2). Esponjas y corales no puede cogerlos el pescador recreativo (art. 1§6).

Protocolo de seguridad
Series: observa las series de olas ≥15 min antes de entrar; Hmax ≈ 2×Hs, la rompiente puede extenderse 50 m más allá de la línea de espuma. Una calma >10 min con período >12 s = una serie grande «en retraso», NO entres; entra justo después de pasar una serie completa y reevalúa al minuto 30.
Salida PRIMERO: identifica la salida Y una alternativa antes de entrar. En una costa rocosa/de bloques un aumento de 0,5 m en el mar de fondo puede hacer imposible la salida — quedar atrapado/sin salida es el principal asesino.
Corriente de cabo: en las puntas salientes suele haber una corriente de retorno topográfica permanente, independientemente del modelo — localízala, entra/sal por el lado de barlovento y nunca nades a contracorriente.
Frío: traje según la SST del chip; el primer escalofrío = pico metabólico y caída de la apnea → sal al primer escalofrío persistente. Limita la sesión a 45–60 min por debajo de 15 °C.
Disciplina a solo: boya izada; avisa a alguien del sitio y de la hora de salida; apnea conservadora (nunca fuerces en agua fría/turbia/con rompiente); visibilidad <3 m — no entres.
Viento de la tarde: en muchas costas el viento refuerza a partir del mediodía — planea salir del agua hacia el mediodía; el mar se pica — sal.
UV 11:00–15:00 (IUV ≥6): protector solar y cobertura en el intervalo en superficie.
El buceo a solo es un riesgo fundamental (síncope hipóxico sin compañero). Cualquier duda = no ir.

¿Dónde hacer pesca submarina en Rethymno?
Rethymno tiene puntos de entrada desde la roca como Bali headlands, Spilies, Panormo y Grouper Rock / Ammoudi (Plakias). Rethymno se asienta sobre dos mares: la costa norte (arrecife/arena mixtos, Bali–Panormo) recibe el meltemi, pero un corto trayecto al sur llega a la costa libia (Plakias–Damnoni–Agios Pavlos) — el conjunto más denso de paredes y cuevas de la isla y una escapada total del viento de N. Más abajo tienes cada punto (acceso, abrigo y peligros) y la previsión de hoy.
¿Cuál es la mejor época en Rethymno?
La temporada más larga de Grecia — buena de junio a noviembre (mayo vedado), la más cálida y clara; la costa sur, del mar de Libia, es el abrigo cuando sopla el norte.

¿La pesca submarina en Rethymno es para principiantes?
Intermedio: agua excelente y entradas fáciles en la costa sur, pero caídas profundas y exposición abierta al norte — el confort en apnea ayuda.
¿Hace falta licencia en Rethymno?
No hace falta licencia de pago en Rethymno — la de aficionado se abolió (Ley 4256/2014), pero se está introduciendo un registro gratuito ΟΣΠΑ (mira gov.gr). Solo en apnea (sin botella), boya «Υ.Δ.» obligatoria, 16+, solo de día, y todo el mes de mayo está cerrado. Mira la guía.
¿Qué peces se cazan en Rethymno?
Las fichas de especies dan 22 especies con presencia real en esta cuenca; las más fuertes aquí son mero, cherna de ley / mero blanco, mero moreno (falso abadejo), dentón, pargo / bocinegro y sargo. Las tallas mínimas en Grecia son NACIONALES, no locales: mero 45 cm · cherna de ley / mero blanco 45 cm · mero moreno (falso abadejo) 45 cm · pargo / bocinegro 18 cm · sargo 23 cm · corvallo / corball 25 cm · cherna 45 cm · pulpo común 750 g. Las especies sin talla de la UE solo tienen el umbral de 150 g. El mero (Epinephelus) — máx. 1/día, no está prohibido (ΠΔ 373/85, art. 2§2).
¿Está prohibida la pesca submarina en mayo en Rethymno?
Sí. Mayo es una PROHIBICIÓN TOTAL de la pesca submarina todo el mes, cada año, en toda Grecia (ΠΔ 373/1985, art. 3§1α) — también en Rethymno. Es ley en vigor, no un borrador, y no hay excepción local. Planifica de junio a abril.
✓Tallas mín.: lubina 25 cm · dorada 20 cm · sargo 23 cm · mero 45 cm · pulpo 750 g (ΠΔ 62/2024). Cualquier pez — no menos de 150 g (ΠΔ 373/85, art. 3§2στ). Especies sin talla (dentón, medregal, espetón, vieja) — solo el mínimo de 150 g. Consulta la ficha de especies.
✓Prohibición total de captura: Pinna nobilis (πίννα), corales y esponjas (ΠΔ 373/85, art. 1§6 + Directiva Hábitats 92/43).
✓Invasores: capturar el pez león (λεοντόψαρο) se fomenta — ⚠️ espinas venenosas. El pez globo plateado (λαγοκέφαλος) ☠️ NO COMER — toxina mortal (TTX), venta prohibida (Reg. 853/2004, Annex III Sect. VIII Ch. V(E)), muerde. El pez conejo (γερμανός) es comestible — espinas venenosas.
✓En CUALQUIER zona arqueológica subacuática declarada y en los sitios históricos sumergidos la pesca submarina está PROHIBIDA — el acto nombra el ψαροντούφεκο (ΚΥΑ ΥΠΠΟ/ΓΔΑΠΚ/ΑΡΧ/Α1/Φ41/11228/1865, ΦΕΚ 336/Β/2004, parte Α §2 δ + parte Β). Alcanza también a las zonas que nuestro mapa no dibuja. No tocar antigüedades (Ν. 3028/2002). Mapa — geoportal ENALIA (thalchor-2.ypen.gov.gr/layers/geonode:ENALIA).
•Parques marinos nacionales de Alonissos/Espóradas del Norte y Zakynthos (Laganas): la pesca submarina está PROHIBIDA en el parque. Pero la zona Β4 de Alonissos no es maciza — el ΦΕΚ 1741/Β/2011 reabrió en ella 4 tramos (costa N Αγ. Δημήτριος–Άκρο Απύθμενο, Μηλιά–Σπαρτίνες, όρμος Κλήμα en Περιστέρα, costa de Μεγάλος Αδελφός), y el mismo acto crea la ΕΕΑΧ Περιστέρας, donde pescar sí está prohibido. Nuestra capa pinta el parque entero, es decir, es más estricta que el acto. Confirma los límites con la gestión del parque.
•Parque de buceo de Kinuria Sur/Arcadia: la Ν. 4688/2020 crea parques subacuáticos, pero no hemos leído en el acto una prohibición de la pesca submarina dentro — la tratamos como NO PROBADA, no como confirmada. El límite del parque tampoco está en nuestro mapa (el acto no publica coordenadas). Pregunta en el λιμεναρχείο de Leonidio/Tyros antes de ir.
•Prohibiciones locales del : además de las reglas nacionales, cada capitanía dicta las suyas (ΓΚΛ/ΕΚΛ y decisiones del λιμενάρχης). En el registro de ΛΣ-ΕΛ.ΑΚΤ contamos ~163 de ellas que alcanzan al fusil, en 48 puertos — nuestro mapa NO las dibuja. Mira tu puerto: alieia.hcg.gr/prohibitions/local/local17.php.
•Localmente MÁS ESTRICTO que la regla nacional: Corfú (Kerkyra) — del 01.04 al 31.10 la pesca submarina está prohibida a menos de 200 m de la costa, incluso donde no hay bañistas (απόφαση Λ/Χ Κέρκυρας 2141.1/2939/2024, ΦΕΚ Β΄3269/2024). En la práctica cierra la entrada desde costa en Corfú durante la temporada. Leímos el acto en el registro, no en el ΦΕΚ — confírmalo en el λιμεναρχείο.
•Localmente MÁS ESTRICTO: Léucade — 300 m en vez de 200, y no solo el fusil: se prohíben ψαροντούφεκο, redes y palangres a menos de 300 m de las zonas de mar, playas y costas del distrito portuario DONDE HAY BAÑISTAS (απόφαση Λ/Χ Λευκάδας 2131.13/1477/2022, literalmente «όπου χρησιμοποιούνται από λουόμενους»). El acto regía hasta el 30.09.2022 y no hallamos prórroga; un acto caducado no demuestra que la prohibición haya terminado. Pregunta en el λιμεναρχείο de Léucade.
•Localmente MÁS ESTRICTO: Symi — del 15.06 al 15.09 está prohibido pescar POR CUALQUIER MEDIO a menos de 200 m de zonas de playa y en áreas costeras habitadas DONDE HAY O SUELE HABER BAÑISTAS (απόφαση Λ/Χ Σύμης 2131.13/882/2016). Aparte y todo el año: pescar por cualquier medio está prohibido dentro del puerto y su zona marítima, salvo a caña/línea desde tierra (ΓΚΛ Σύμης, art. 151, ΦΕΚ 362/Β/2004). Actos copiados del registro, no cotejados con el ΦΕΚ.
•Localmente: en los puertos de Lavrio y Kea la pesca submarina está prohibida en TODA la lámina de agua portuaria, no solo por la regla de los 200 m; aparte, frente a las playas de los hoteles (ΓΚΛ Λαυρίου, art. 240, ΦΕΚ 460/Β/1978). Acto copiado del registro, no cotejado con el ΦΕΚ.
•Próximamente: se están creando dos nuevos parques marinos nacionales (Jónico + Cícladas del Sur, ~27 500 km²). Aún NO en vigor (ΠΔ en tramitación, mediados de 2026). Cuando entren — prohibición de arrastre + costera estacional 15.04–31.05; en las zonas estrictas la pesca submarina estará prohibida. Consulta antes de la temporada.
⛔ Pinna nobilis (πίννα, nacra) — prohibición total de captura/muerte (Directiva 92/43, ; en peligro crítico).
Las reglas cambian y el Λιμεναρχείο (autoridad portuaria) local puede imponer restricciones locales. Antes de salir, confirma las reglas vigentes y las zonas arqueológicas declaradas (ENALIA).
¿Cuántos kilos de pescado se pueden llevar al día en Rethymno?
El límite diario es 5 kg, o un trofeo más pesado que el límite (ΠΔ 373/85, art. 2§2). El mero (Epinephelus) — máx. 1/día. Cualquier pez debe pesar al menos 150 g (art. 3§2στ) y la venta de las capturas de aficionado está prohibida (art. 1§7). El límite es nacional — en Rethymno es el mismo que en toda Grecia.
¿Se puede pescar con botella en Rethymno?
No. Solo en apnea: la escafandra y cualquier aparato de aire están prohibidos — ni siquiera pueden llevarse a bordo (ΠΔ 373/85, art. 3§2γ). En Rethymno rige también el resto del marco nacional: 16+, solo de día, ≥200 m de bañistas, puertos, embarcaciones fondeadas y redes señalizadas, y boya «Υ.Δ.» obligatoria a menos de 50 m. Los fusiles neumáticos y de gomas están permitidos; solo se prohíben los powerheads.
