Rules are PROVINCIAL and vary. Before heading out, check with your province's authority (Chubut — free licence; Río Negro; Buenos Aires — Ciudadano Digital / Flora y Fauna); sea spearfishing is allowed, banned only in inland waters.
Spearfishing in Puerto Deseado is mostly a legal stop sign. Ría Deseado, Punta Norte and Isla Chaffers/Isla Quinta are all flagged protected in the local notes, so they are not recommended hunting spots. The ria has strong tide, high turbidity and sensitive wildlife, making it better for observation dives with local guidance. The correct authority is Santa Cruz province, not Chubut or Río Negro. Chondrichthyans such as sharks and rays are listed as prohibited, and Isla Pingüino to the south is treated as no-take.

The ria is an estuary, not a simple shore reef. Macro tide, strong current and around 40 NTU turbidity in the local note make timing and navigation serious. More importantly, the available marks carry protected flags, so a best-spots table would be misleading. Keep this as wildlife diving unless the Santa Cruz authority confirms a legal area outside sensitive boundaries. Do not target sharks, rays, penguins, sea lions, cetaceans or seabirds.
