Its own normal is 66°, the 3 km window 80° — the same ENE swell as the city, but outside the Clyde plume, so it clears first. Zoning checked point-by-point: Habitat Protection. Black Rock 1.9 km NE is a sanctuary.
Google MapsThe south head of the bay mouth, taken 85 m off the rock: local seaward normal 105°, the 1.5 km window 60°, sandstone ledge and boulder. It clears before the town beaches after Clyde rain. NSW zoning at this point is Habitat Protection — but the Tollgate Islands, 2.8 km east, are a sanctuary, so do not carry on out.

Rules change and vary BY STATE. Before heading out, check with your state's fisheries (NSW DPI, Fisheries QLD, VFA, DPIRD WA, PIRSA, NRE Tas, NT Fisheries) and the marine-park zoning map.
Batemans Bay has rock entry points such as Observation Head, Malua Head and South Broulee Cave. The Clyde River mouth and the string of rock heads south of it: Observation Head, Denhams, Malua Bay, Guerilla Bay, Burrewarra Point. Batemans Bay is in NSW. Yes — NSW requires a Recreational Fishing Licence (~AUD 35/yr), and the eastern blue groper has been protected from the spear since 1969.
