Sandusky is a Ohio town on Lake Erie. Ohio lets forage fish — drum, carp, suckers, gar, bowfin and the rest — be taken by any method outside a listed set that does not include spears, while game fish are treated as closed. We have four public access points here, Cedar Point Beach among them, from OpenStreetMap, and none of them is a surveyed dive site: treat them as entries, not marks. The shore faces north, and wind from 294–64° closes it.
Forage fish yes, game fish no at Sandusky: Ohio lets its forage-fish class be taken by any method outside a listed set, and spears are not in that set. Ohio never writes the word spearfishing. It defines a forage-fish class and allows it to be taken by any method except a listed set — explosives, poisons, firearms, electricity, chemicals, nets other than cast nets, seines, traps and snagging below posted dams — and spears, gigs and bows are not in that list. Nothing opens a game fish to the spear, and OAC 1501:31-13, which would settle it, could not be opened in this research, so the safe reading is that walleye, yellow perch, smallmouth bass and the salmonids are closed. An Ohio fishing licence is required. Our no-take layer shows no mapped no-take or restricted zone within 15 km of Sandusky. The rule is the same at every Sandusky entry — Cedar Point Beach, Amvet Park, Battery Park and Facer Park.
The forage-fish class: freshwater drum (sheepshead), common carp, grass carp outside waters stocked for vegetation control, bighead, silver and black carp, quillback, suckers, bowfin, gar, buffalo, gizzard shad and goldfish. Identify a gar before you shoot — alligator, shortnose and spotted gar are Ohio state endangered, as are lake sturgeon, shovelnose sturgeon, cisco, longnose sucker and goldeye, and their possession is prohibited in all Ohio waters. It applies the same way at all four Sandusky entries — Cedar Point Beach, Amvet Park, Battery Park and Facer Park.
US spearfishing law is state-by-state. License, spearable species, powerhead rules and distances vary; federal sanctuaries (Gray's Reef, the Keys, Flower Garden Banks) ban spearfishing. Always confirm with the state agency and local ordinances.

Sandusky sits by the shallow western basin, the murkiest water in the lake: visibility collapses after wind over about 15 knots. Ice cover on Lake Erie often reaches 90-100 % in February. The season runs May to October and this water warms first, up to 22-24 °C in August. There is no tide; the astronomical range on the Great Lakes is a few centimetres. At Sandusky the shore faces north (354°): wind and swell from 294–64° close it, worst from about 14°, so outside that arc the forecast is worth a look.
