- If anything changes the level at Trieste, it is pressure and wind, not the moon. In the bora the level drops and in the sirocco it rises: the wind surge adds itself to the astronomical range. With the shore 100 m from the mark, the alongshore current counts for more than any table. The way back, 720 m to the five-metre band, is decided beforehand and not on the way.
- zaklon
- Gusts from the northeast ruffle the surface but raise no swell: it is the fetch towards the southwest that counts. In Libeccio the detached rocks break the swell but hand it back confused, and that crossed sea tires you more than a clean wave. With wind from the southwest building, the window shuts fast: plan the way back with margin. Dead swell from the southwest arrives under a clear sky and no wind at all.
- uvjeti
- On ground this flat the wind does more damage than the swell, because it stirs the whole layer. With 20 m reached about 2400 m out, the limit of the day is set by your breath and not by the distance. Past 1200 m from the shore it is the water that decides the day and not the willingness. The best water nearly always arrives from offshore on a light Grecale.
- opasnost
- The danger of an isolated rock is the distance from land, not the depth. At Trieste, as along the whole Italian coast, the surface marker and the 50 m radius are not negotiable. Keep in mind the 100 m that separate you from the coast when you decide on the last descent. With 720 m out to five metres, the exit is short only if you decide on it in time.
- pristup
- In Libeccio the crossing out to the shoal is worth thinking about twice, because on the way back you will have it against you. The mark is 100 m from the coastline and ten metres of water runs 1200 m out. Count the 720 m that separate you from the five-metre contour: they are the measure of the way back. If you do not fancy swimming the 1200 m back from ten metres of water, do not go any further out.
Urban rocky strip south of Miramare; mixed sand and rock, modest but real.
