- A loaded speargun out of the water is prohibited: you load below and unload before coming out. Recreational catch may not be sold, in any quantity. With Levante forecast to strengthen it pays to go earlier rather than to stay longer. The last stretch, the 280 m out to ten metres of water, is the one you will swim tired: put it in the day's arithmetic.

- High water pushed by Levante counts for more than a spring tide. Between the shore and five metres of water there are 280 m, and no tide shifts that line appreciably. The way back, 280 m to the five-metre band, is decided beforehand and not on the way. At Taormina the level changes little, but the current towards the east can be noticeable in the channels.
- καταφύγιο
- The opening to the east is wide: no nearby storm is needed here, an old sea from that sector is enough. In a bay like this the shelter is a few tens of metres wide, tucked against the windward point rather than in the middle of the arc, and in a hard Levante not even that. If the swell starts working inside the 280 m of coastal strip, the session is over. At Taormina the difference between a bad day and a good one is a hundred metres of coast, not an hour of waiting.

- The bottom drops straight away: the 10 m contour runs about 280 m out and the 20 m contour 290 m. At Taormina the clarity is built on the days without swell, not on the hours without wind. Better two hours in the right water than six in the wrong one. An offshore wind cleans, an onshore wind muddies: it holds here as it does along the whole coast.
- κίνδυνος
- The daily limit is 5 kg per person and the catch may not be sold. With Levante into the mouth of the bay the water leaves through the middle and comes back along the sides: keep it in mind for the return. Go down less deep than you could: the margin is the only real safety. Keep in mind the 40 m that separate you from the coast when you decide on the last descent.
- πρόσβαση
- From here to the 5 m contour is about 280 m, and it pays to measure them on the way out so as not to find them long on the way back. In a cove you normally get in off the low shore at the head of the bay, where the water is calmer. With Levante strengthening the exit is brought forward, not discussed. At Taormina the return is planned on the afternoon swell, not on the morning one.
