- A loaded speargun out of the water is prohibited: you load below and unload before coming out. The orders of the Capitaneria responsible for Sestri Levante can add seasonal prohibitions, and they outrank the general rule. A shore oriented at 278° loses the sun before sunset: take it into account for the last descent. The last stretch, the 360 m out to ten metres of water, is the one you will swim tired: put it in the day's arithmetic.

- The tide is felt more in narrow channels than in front of an open shore. The regime is microtidal: the level at Sestri Levante moves less than half a metre even at springs. With the shore 10 m from the mark, the alongshore current counts for more than any table. If the current takes you past the 360 m of the ten-metre line, head straight back for land.
- καταφύγιο
- In a cove only what comes through the mouth counts: if the mouth is looking at today's sea, no shelter inside will hold. The coast here runs S–N and opens to the west: that is what decides which forecast to read. On this coast yesterday's blow weighs more than today's forecast. With wind from the west building, the window shuts fast: plan the way back with margin.

- With 100 m reached about 4300 m out, the limit of the day is set by your breath and not by the distance. The bottom falls away calmly, with no steps: depth is earned with distance, 610 m to reach twenty. After three calm days the water at Sestri Levante is a different water. The ascent is looked at before the descent.
- κίνδυνος
- In a cove the risk is the false calm: from inside you cannot see that the sea outside has built. The daily limit is 5 kg per person and the catch may not be sold. Keep in mind the 10 m that separate you from the coast when you decide on the last descent. Better to come back empty-handed than not to come back on time.
- πρόσβαση
- With the shore 10 m away and five metres of water at 280 m, the band to cross is a short one. In a cove you normally get in off the low shore at the head of the bay, where the water is calmer. If you do not fancy swimming the 360 m back from ten metres of water, do not go any further out. At Sestri Levante the return is planned on the afternoon swell, not on the morning one.
