Open the seafloor mapRocky island with a sand beach at the mouth of the bay, 3–15 m; the classic mark is the submerged Virgen de los Mares. 🔴 In summer 2025 COFEPRIS declared Caletilla — the very beach the pangas leave from — unfit for recreational use for excess enterococci.
Google Maps🔴 The pin is most likely on land: the elevation grid reads +55 m, which puts it on the Punta Diamante / Cabo Marqués headland south of the bay. Puerto Marqués village lies north of it, at 16.802 / −99.835. 3–14 m on record, with no bottom description.

Check the cam BEFORE you leave. Foam, brown/green murk, or waves washing the entry rocks = No-go. At night/in fog the cam is useless — treat it as «unknown», NOT «green».

SOLO is the biggest risk: underwater you can black out from lack of oxygen silently and fatally, with no one around. Solo is never truly «safe». Below are the best weather windows; carry a buoy, tell someone your plan and exit time, and any doubt — don't go.
Rules change. Before heading out, check with CONAPESCA/SADER (E5CINCO permit), CONANP (no-take marine ANPs) and NOM-059; apnea only.
Spearfishing in Acapulco is reef-based rather than beach-based: La Roqueta sits at the bay mouth, Puerto Marques gives shallow rock, and Pie de la Cuesta is the more exposed Pacific option. all three spots are outside reserves with yellow safety, so treat them as intermediate dives. You need the CONAPESCA/SADER recreational-sport permit, must hunt on breath-hold only, and should avoid any protected or unclear polygon.
The useful Acapulco pattern is three separate reef settings: island reef, sheltered rocky reef and exposed Pacific reef. Check access, boat traffic and exit before gearing up.

Use conditions first, not the calendar. Warm months suit snapper and other reef fish, while cabrilla works rocky reef through much of spring to autumn. The safest window is early morning with low sea, workable visibility and moving water. After rain, swell or heavy beach traffic, shallow reefs lose the clean, calm margin that makes the dive worthwhile. The Mexico legal baseline still applies: permit, apnea only, one speargun, five fish per day and no shooting in protected cores or uncertain reserve water.
