Rock outcrops ('Los Morros') off Punta de Mita, 5–20 m, a boat hop from Punta Mita or La Cruz. They sit east of the Marietas park — do not confuse the two groups of rocks. Coords approx.
Google MapsSOLO is the biggest risk: underwater you can black out from lack of oxygen silently and fatally, with no one around. Solo is never truly «safe». Below are the best weather windows; carry a buoy, tell someone your plan and exit time, and any doubt — don't go.
Rules change. Before heading out, check with CONAPESCA/SADER (E5CINCO permit), CONANP (no-take marine ANPs) and NOM-059; apnea only.
Spearfishing in Punta de Mita should be planned outside Islas Marietas National Park. The useful ground is the rocky north point of Bahía de Banderas plus offshore structure: El Morro/Punta de Mita in 5-20 m, La Corbeteña in 18-43 m and El Banco in 18-30 m. La Corbeteña is exposed to current, so plan the drift and pickup before entering. National rules require an individual CONAPESCA/SADER permit, apnea only, one allowed speargun and five fish per day. If the protected boundary is uncertain, do not shoot.
Keep Marietas as the exclusion, then choose reef by sea state and boat logistics.

The point usually offers clearer water than the back of Bahía de Banderas, but the offshore banks depend on wind, sea state and current. Use El Morro for the shorter window; save La Corbeteña and El Banco for stable weather and a clear recovery plan.
