Good reef fish (red snapper, grouper, other snappers), but WARNING: this is the Lobos-Tuxpan protected area — without CONANP authorisation leave the gun ashore. Visibility drops after heavy rain in the Tuxpan basin. Federal rule: one speargun per diver, no gaffs and no light-attraction devices. Coords approximate.

WARNING: it sits inside the Lobos-Tuxpan Reef System protected area (decree 05.06.2009, 30,571 ha); inside a Mexican ANP spearfishing is only possible with express CONANP/SEMARNAT authorisation — do not assume it is open. Google MapsSOLO is the biggest risk: underwater you can black out from lack of oxygen silently and fatally, with no one around. Solo is never truly «safe». Below are the best weather windows; carry a buoy, tell someone your plan and exit time, and any doubt — don't go.

Spearfishing in Tuxpan is centered on the Lobos-Tuxpan reef system, not the beach. The listed reefs sit about 10-15 km offshore and usually offer cleaner water, but they are coral and ANP-sensitive. Isla de Lobos/Sistema Lobos-Tuxpan is listed in 3-12 m. Tanhuijo, Blake and Enmedio are 3-20 m coral reefs marked as legal but inside or near an ANP buffer, so verify zoning before loading a gun. From October to March, Nortes bring strong north wind and short sea; wait until the front passes. Mexico requires a CONAPESCA/SADER permit, apnea only and five fish per day.
Use the reef names as navigation references, then confirm the legal subzone and coral rules before fishing.

Nortes are the main seasonal filter. From October to March, strong north wind and short sea can close the offshore reefs; wait until the front has passed. There is no nearby buoy nearby, so combine local forecast, harbor observation and boat recovery planning.
