Google MapsLimestone islets ~40 km offshore, an hour by boat from Peñasco, 5–20 m; the largest sea-lion colony in the northern Gulf. Local reports mention current and poor visibility. Protected island — landing needs a CONANP permit.
Google MapsRock platforms and tidepools just off Las Conchas, 3–10 m, by kayak or panga from the beach. The tide is macrotidal (0.6–3.5 m routinely, far more on springs) and it decides both current and turbidity. Coords approx.
Google MapsSOLO is the biggest risk: underwater you can black out from lack of oxygen silently and fatally, with no one around. Solo is never truly «safe». Below are the best weather windows; carry a buoy, tell someone your plan and exit time, and any doubt — don't go.

Spearfishing in Puerto Peñasco works only with tide timing and protected-area boundaries in mind. The Upper Gulf can see 6-7 m tides, so dive around slack water, not during the turn. The Upper Gulf Reserve and vaquita refuge sit to the north; treat that core as closed and never target totoaba. Usable options include Isla San Jorge by boat, Las Conchas/Sandy Beach nearshore reef and Bajo San Jorge. Mexico requires a CONAPESCA/SADER permit, apnea only, one legal speargun and a five-fish daily limit.
The practical choice is tide plus logistics. Isla San Jorge is the major boat run, Las Conchas is the nearshore reef, and Bajo San Jorge is the more open reef option.

Dive near slack water. The local setup has tides up to 6-7 m and strong current at the turn. There is no nearby buoy nearby, so use tide tables, wind forecast and direct observation. If the current is still running, wait or cancel.
