prozor: In summer the beach has umbrellas and a canteen and people from morning to evening, so work at first light or walk along the shore past the headland. The season starts in June, but it is genuinely good in September and October when the beach empties. May is closed nationwide, and hunting at night is banned.
plima: The level moves a couple of dozen centimetres and there is nothing to plan around it. After a southerly swell the inshore water stays dirty for a long time: pumice sand hangs for days. Further east at Palaiochori hot springs and gas vent from the bottom — the water there is warm in patches and tastes of it; that rarely reaches this far, but it happens.
zaklon: South coast, right under an old volcanic crater: coloured rock and slabs run into the water and the whole thing faces the open sea. The bulk of the island covers it from the meltemi, so the water stays quiet. South and south-west, though, hit it with nothing in the way — that is the worst direction for the mark.
uvjeti: Northerly wind is exactly when you come here, while the north coast is blown out. Just remember the gusts: the meltemi tips over the ridge and drops in squalls, and a boat close in gets torn about. Southerly closes the place — surf works the pumice sand and everything by the slabs goes chalky.

prozor: Get here at first light. The tour boats leave Adamas and take an hour and a half to two hours, so from ten in the morning until five in the afternoon there is a whole fleet parked over the rock and nowhere to work. Season is June, then September and October. May is shut across Greece, and hunting is banned from sunset to sunrise.
plima: The thing that matters here is surge: even a light southerly swell walks into the tunnels and arches and sloshes back and forth, and you feel it on the wall down to ten metres. The level moves ten to thirty centimetres and never enters the plan. After a few days of meltemi a steady stream runs east along the cape.
zaklon: The south-west tip of the island sits under the mountain, so when the meltemi blows from the north the water here stays flat — that is the whole reason people come. The islets and arches break up whatever wave is left. The weak side is south and south-west: from there the swell runs straight into the gaps between the rocks.
uvjeti: Come here on north and north-east wind, when the rest of Milos is blown out — under the ridge it stays calm. A south-westerly around two hundred degrees ends the day: the wave hits the rock, the tunnels start surging, and visibility on the 0–25 m wall drops from the muck lifted off the stone.
opasnost: Boats are the main threat: in summer there is an unbroken stream of tour caiques and RIBs over this rock, so a buoy is not optional and you stay next to it. Two hundred metres from any group of swimmers applies all day here. The tunnels and caves put a ceiling over your head — do not go inside without a partner. Lift nothing off the bottom.
pristup: There is no shore entry: above you it is a cliff and there is no way down to the water. Boat only — an hour and a half to two hours from Adamas, or twenty to thirty minutes on a RIB launched from the south side at Agia Kiriaki or Provatas. If you bring your own hull, anchor well off the tour-boat line.

Minimum sizes in Greece are NATIONAL, not local: kirnja glavulja 45 cm · pagar 18 cm · šarag 23 cm · kirnja bijela 45 cm · kirnja pjegava 45 cm · kirnja golać 45 cm · ovčica 20 cm · hobotnica 750 g. Species with no EU size carry the 150 g floor only. Grouper (Epinephelus) — max 1/day, not banned (ΠΔ 373/85, art. 2§2).

Is spearfishing banned in May in Milos?

Yes. May is a TOTAL spearfishing ban for the whole month, every year, across Greece (ΠΔ 373/1985, art. 3§1α) — so in Milos too. It is law in force, not a draft, and there is no local exemption. Plan June to April.

How many kilos of fish may I keep per day in Milos?

The daily limit is 5 kg, or one trophy heavier than the limit (ΠΔ 373/85, art. 2§2). Grouper (Epinephelus) — max 1/day. Every fish must be at least 150 g (art. 3§2στ), and selling a recreational catch is prohibited (art. 1§7). The limit is national — in Milos it is the same as everywhere in Greece.

Can I spearfish on scuba in Milos?

No. Freediving only: scuba and any air-supply apparatus are banned — they may not even be carried aboard (ΠΔ 373/85, art. 3§2γ). In Milos the rest of the national frame applies too: 16+, daytime only, ≥200 m from bathers, harbours, moored vessels and marked nets, and a mandatory «Υ.Δ.» buoy you stay within 50 m of. Pneumatic and band guns are allowed; only powerheads are banned.
