Pesca submarina nos EUA

Os EUA não são um só destino, mas cinco: o Atlântico frio do Nordeste, o quente Sudeste e os Cayos da Florida, o turvo mas produtivo Golfo do México, o Pacífico frio do kelp e da Corrente da Califórnia, e o remoto Alasca e o tropical Havai. Não há uma única lei federal de pesca submarina — cada estado costeiro define a sua licença, espécies e zonas, e as diferenças são enormes. Este guia acerta o essencial e liga-se aos quatro guias regionais e à previsão diária «vamos / no limite / não vamos» de cada cidade.

Três regras valem para quase toda a costa. Primeira: precisas da licença recreativa de pesca do estado onde mergulhas — barata ou grátis na maioria, mas obrigatória. Segunda: as águas estaduais vão até 3 milhas náuticas no Atlântico e até 9 no Golfo da Florida e no Texas; além disso começam as águas federais, com regras próprias. E terceira: a lagosta NUNCA se arpoa em nenhum estado — é à mão. A partir daí, tudo muda por estado e por costa.

Espécies por costa e segurança

O botim muda por completo de costa para costa. No Nordeste atlântico manda o tautog, o robalo-preto e o fluke; no Sudeste, o sheepshead, pargos e garoupas. O Golfo dá red snapper (por época), sheepshead e cobia. O Pacífico dá white seabass, halibut da Califórnia, yellowtail e lingcod. Alasca, halibut e lingcod; Havai, ulua, uhu e o invasor roi.

Maine

Maine — Golfo do Maine frio, macromarés; tautog/bacalhau/solha, robalo e lagosta não podem ser arpoados.

Sim, nas águas salgadas de quase todos os estados costeiros, com a licença recreativa desse estado. Mas as regras de espécies, arte e zonas variam muito: o Texas só permite arpoar peixe «nongame», a Geórgia é ambígua nas águas do estado, e há muitas zonas no-take. Vê o guia regional da tua costa.

Que licença preciso?

A licença recreativa de água salgada do estado onde mergulhas. Não há uma licença «de pesca submarina» à parte. A Florida custa $17 (residente) / $47 (não residente); Nova Iorque e Nova Jérsia têm registo grátis; o Havai é grátis para residentes e exige a NRMFL a quem vem de fora. Anda com ela na água.

Posso arpoar a lagosta?

Não, em nenhuma costa dos EUA. A lagosta (espinhosa ou americana) apanha-se SÓ à mão, com licença de mergulho específica em vários estados. Arpoá-la ou levá-la furada é infração. A regra é coast-wide: sem exceção.

Posso arpoar com escafandro?

Depende do estado. Florida e Califórnia permitem para peixe; o Alabama exige estar «completamente submerso» (escafandro OK). Mas o Havai proíbe a caça COM escafandro em West Hawai'i e nos MLCD, e muitas reservas fecham qualquer método. Verifica o estado e a zona primeiro.

Onde e quando há melhor visibilidade?

Os Cayos da Florida e o Havai dão 15–40 m quase o ano todo. A Carolina do Norte (naufrágios do Gulf Stream) e o sul da Califórnia destacam-se no verão–outono. O Nordeste e o Pacífico Norte são frios e variáveis: janelas curtas em calmaria. Escolhe o dia com a previsão de cada cidade.
