Open in the appSOLO is the biggest risk: underwater you can black out from lack of oxygen silently and fatally, with no one around. Solo is never truly «safe». Below are the best weather windows; carry a buoy, tell someone your plan and exit time, and any doubt — don't go.

Check the cam BEFORE you leave. Foam, brown/green murk, or waves washing the entry rocks = No-go. At night/in fog the cam is useless — treat it as «unknown», NOT «green».
Spearfishing in Biarritz means rock, arches and boulders close to a world surf town. Rocher de la Vierge is the main Port-Vieux entry, with bream and bass in 3 to 15 m. Côte des Basques and Pointe Saint-Martin are more exposed and depend on very small swell. A sea forecast Biarritz check should start with swell period, not only wind. Nationally, no licence or declaration is needed, but insurance is mandatory and spearfishing is apnea only.
These entries sit beside busy beaches. Low water, small swell and the municipal closed zone matter more than distance on the map.

Use the Grande Plage and Côte des Basques webcams before committing. Long Atlantic swell keeps power even when the wind is light, and busy surf days rarely make good spearfishing days. For freediving Biarritz, choose a quiet morning, low water, clear exit and a visible buoy. Local law closes all water activity within 20 m of Boucalot and Roche ronde; national law adds insurance, daylight and apnea-only requirements.
