Open the seafloor mapThe point, at the mouth of the passes: sandbanks, rip-rap and groynes, 3–12 m, shore entry. Bass in the stream, meagre in summer, cuttlefish in spring. Slack water only — the ebb runs out at several knots — and never alone. Measured 768 m from the banc d'Arguin reserve.
Google MapsSOLO is the biggest risk: underwater you can black out from lack of oxygen silently and fatally, with no one around. Solo is never truly «safe». Below are the best weather windows; carry a buoy, tell someone your plan and exit time, and any doubt — don't go.

Arcachon has rock entry points such as Pointe du Cap Ferret. Let's be clear: the bassin d'Arcachon is sand country, not rock. Below you'll find each spot (access, shelter and hazards) and today's forecast.
Summer (June–October). Aquitaine/Arcachon: sand, not rock — the structure is at the basin passes and the tip of Cap Ferret. Tidal current in the passes decides the day before the swell does; after rain the Leyre runoff clouds the water.
Atlantic: ~11 °C in winter, ~21–22 °C in summer (the basin warms faster than the ocean). 5 mm in summer, 7 mm in the shoulder seasons. Sandy bottom, spring plankton bloom; cleanest on the ocean side at the top of the flood.
Hard, and not because of depth: tidal current in the basin passes runs to several knots and rearranges the sandbanks. Slack water only, never alone, surface cover; on the beaches, the baïnes.
No paid licence in Arcachon — but third-party (RC) insurance is MANDATORY, and since 10/01/2026 a free EU registration + catch declaration (RECFishing app) applies from age 16. Breath-hold only (no scuba), buoy mandatory, no night; sizes by coast (bar 42 Atl. / 30 Med.), grouper and corb banned in the Med. See the guide.
