Open in the appSOLO is the biggest risk: underwater you can black out from lack of oxygen silently and fatally, with no one around. Solo is never truly «safe». Below are the best weather windows; carry a buoy, tell someone your plan and exit time, and any doubt — don't go.

Check the cam BEFORE you leave. Foam, brown/green murk, or waves washing the entry rocks = No-go. At night/in fog the cam is useless — treat it as «unknown», NOT «green».
Spearfishing in Cassis is not a simple spot list. West of the port, Port-Miou toward Marseille belongs to the Calanques National Park and its no-take zones. Any possible plan stays east, toward Cap Canaille and La Ciotat, but reserve polygons require a fail-closed approach: if the boundary is unclear, do not shoot. A sea forecast Cassis check comes second, mainly for mistral, which spoils the water. France also requires insurance and apnea-only daylight hunting.
These are boundary-check sectors, not guaranteed legal spots. Stay out of the park and no-take zones.

The map matters before the sea. For freediving Cassis, check the Calanques National Park and no-take boundaries first, then decide whether a dive is possible at all. Mistral from the northwest can dirty the water, while Cap Canaille may give shelter. Legally, carry civil-liability insurance, hunt breath-hold only, avoid night, ports, bathing zones and reserves, and remember that grouper and brown meagre are protected.
Rules change. Exact distances from beaches/ports and seasonal closures are set by the local préfecture maritime — check its arrêté and the DIRM/OFB zone map before heading out.
