Limestone reef in Lake Pelto about 15 km south in 3 m. Red drum and black drum; brackish, murky water, so it is close-quarters hunting rather than long-range shooting.

US spearfishing law is state-by-state. License, spearable species, powerhead rules and distances vary; federal sanctuaries (Gray's Reef, the Keys, Flower Garden Banks) ban spearfishing. Always confirm with the state agency and local ordinances.
Cocodrie spearfishing is defined by low-relief Gulf infrastructure and sheltered Lake Pelto water south of the Terrebonne coast. The three marks are Point Mast limestone about 15 km south, Bodwin's Point in Lake Pelto, and Bird Island near the barrier islands. The area is sheltered, with a south-facing aspect and a poor sector from 130 to 215 degrees. No mapped plume is called out, but this is still Louisiana marsh country, so visibility should be treated as earned, not assumed.
The Cocodrie list is compact and shallow-water in character, but exact depths are not available. Treat each mark as a boat-supported conditions check, with Lake Pelto shelter balanced against turbidity and weather from the south.

Cocodrie is sheltered water, with Gulf diurnal tides and buoy 42040 listed 235.3 km away. That buoy distance means local judgment matters. South-sector wind or swell can still ruin the water, while Lake Pelto may stay more workable than open Gulf marks.
The local species mix includes red snapper, sheepshead, flounder and cobia or ling. Red snapper carries a state-set season note, typically May to October, with two to four fish per day and a 15 to 16 inch size line. Confirm before launch.
Gulf rules list saltwater license and endorsement by state, including Louisiana resident license at $32. Red snapper is state-set, and federal reef waters have separate rules, including descending-device language.
The protected Gulf note bars Goliath and Nassau grouper, Gulf sturgeon, sawfish, sea turtles, marine mammals and many sharks. If identification is not clean in Louisiana-colored water, pass the shot. Federal sanctuaries are also described as no-spearfishing zones.
