- créneau
- Summer (Jun–Sep), water ~22–24°C. Early morning before the thermal wind builds.
- marée
- Tidal range is small; the ladder exit is easier at mid/high water so you don't grind on the lava.
- abri
- Lava point on Pico's south coast; sheltered from N and NW wind by the island itself, open to S and SW swell.
- danger
- The main danger is a building S swell pinning you onto the lava slabs at the ladder exit. The bottom drops sharply — stay on your float.
- accès
- Prepared bathing zone in São João: parking, lava walkway and a metal ladder into the open sea. Also off the PR-15 Mistérios do Sul trail.
The best-documented shore entry for hunting near Lajes: a real open-sea exit, not a closed pool. Read the swell from land before entering.
