- Go at dawn, before the boats leave Cala Gamba and Portitxol and before the embat. Important legal note: the Badia de Palma marine reserve is one of only two places on Mallorca where spearfishing may be permitted, with individual authorisation and only on Saturdays, Sundays, holidays and two weekdays fixed by resolution. Check whether your entry falls inside.

- Astronomical tide here is token, a couple of fingers of range, and it neither uncovers nor covers anything on the quay steps. What you do notice is the water sloshing inside the Portitxol basin when pressure changes or a southerly sets in, plus a level push during storms. The swell rules here; the tide does not.

- You are on the north shore of the bay, looking south-south-west with the city and the airport at your back: under Tramuntana or Mestral the water stands still, almost swimming-pool calm. The bad sector is 150–260°: the 220 Llebeig raises a short chop inside the bay itself, and the breakwater edge fills with foam.
- uvjeti
- This is city water: over the sand and the posidonia patches you see reasonably well in calm, but never like on an open cape. What clouds it is rain with urban runoff, silt stirred by propellers around the moorings, and short south-west chop. After two days of Tramuntana and no recent rain the bottom reads comfortably.
